Painful Bladder/Interstitial Cystitis

Pelvic floor function may impact the pain from Interstitial Cystitis (IC). While there has not been much research in this area, clinically physiotherapy has been able to make a difference. A recent patient with IC who was sent for myofascial release of her pelvic floor noted that once the pelvic floor was treated, she no longer experienced episodes of IC. A full assessment is worthwhile to identify potential contributing factors such as tight pelvic floor muscles.
