Real-Time Ultrasound Imaging (RTUS)

RTUS is an effective tool for viewing the abdominal, pelvic floor and deep back muscles as they contract. It is also very helpful when teaching core muscle strengthening exercises including pelvic floor (Kegel) exercises. Research has shown that 60-80% of women do not contract their pelvic floor properly. Similarly, many people use the abdominal obliques instead of the Transversus Abdominis when performing core exercises. But research has also found that proper technique can be learned quickly when using RTUS for biofeedback. During assessment and treatment, you can watch the ultrasound screen as your muscles contract and relax allowing you to recognize what a proper contraction feels like.

To get started, book a real-time ultrasound examination with Marie-Josée Ryan.
